En primavera, Gusanos de Seda ; con muchas actividades

 

El año pasado tuvimos una primavera fantástica. Después de un largo invierno en el que principalmente passamos todo el dia en el interior, los niños y yo estábamos ya ansiosos por estar al aire libre, oler las flores, gozar del sol y observar la naturaleza volviendo a la vida. Miramos insectos, pájaros y sembramos muchos bulbos que ya están regresando este año.

Una de las cosas en la que más disfrutamos y que repitiremos este año fue conseguir Gusanos de Seda para la classe, son tan fascinantes.

Los gusanos de seda ya no se encuentran en libertad en la naturaleza y dependen totalmente de los seres humanos para sobrevivir. Se cultivan principalmente en China y la India por la seda que se obtiene de su capullo. O vendido en tiendas de mascotas.

 Yo compré los nuestros en la tienda de mascotas local, pero se pueden comprar packs por internet.He seleccionado algunos para ti , los encontraras en la columna derecha del blog.

Acondicionamos una caja de zapatos  para ponerlos y encontramos un espacio en nuestra mesa de naturaleza para ellos. Los niños traían hojas de moreras que crecen por todas partes en nuestra zona. Fue fascinante ver la emoción en la cara de los niños todos los días cuando abrian la caja de zapatos y  encontraban que los gusanos de seda eran más grandes que el día anterior. Vieron de primera mano cómo los gusano de seda hacian sus capullos. Durante aproximadamente 2 semanas todo el mundo tuvo que susurrar en clase paravno despertar las polillas. Para nuestra sorpresa capturamos el momento exacto en que uno de los capullos se abría y la polilla de seda salia de su interior. Todos los  niños empezaron a cantar en voz baja: vamos polilla, sal ,  puedes hacerlo! La Polilla salio. Luego puso huevos. Fue increíble presenciarlo. Así que os lo recomiendo a todos: en casa, en escuela Montessori o en escuela no Montessori. Además hay un montón de actividades que puedes hacer en torno a este tema.

A continuacion os doy ideas agrupadas por edad y al final del post un descargable gratis con tarjetasde 3 partes Montessori, tarjetas de informacion relacionada con las tarjetas de 3 partes e informacion adicional acerca de los gusanos de seda y la seda en si.

      

Si estás trabajando con niños de 2 a 3 años, puedes:

• Ve a la biblioteca y coge libros sobre orugas y mariposas para tu classe.

• Alimenta y observa los gusanos de seda y admira la transformación que va tener lugar.

• Introduce las tarjetas de 3 partes del Gusano de seda que encontraras al final de la publicación. En este caso para esta franja de edad usaría las tarjetas con la imagen y el nombre solamnete para trabajar el vocabulario.

Si está trabajando con niños 3-6 puede hacer:

•  Todas las actividades anteriores.

• Esta vez te aconsejo que utilices el conjunto de las tarjetas de 3 partes que encontrarás al final del post.

•  También puedes leer para los ninos la información disponible al final del post.

• Anade seda en la caja de telas de la classe.

• Apareja trozos de tela de seda con los colores de la caja de  tabletas de color de la classe.

• Ten una caja con panuelos de seda para que los niños puedan jugar con ellos en la hora del recreo.

Si está trabajando con niños 6-9 puede hacer:

• Todas las actividades anteriores.

• Esta vez usa el conjunto de tarjetas de 3 partes junto cartas con las tarjetas de información, que encontrarás al final del post.

• Los ninos pueden leer la información sobre Gusanos de seda disponible para descarga gratuita al final.

• Trabajar el ciclo de vida del Gusano de seda.

• Los ninos pueden monitorear el crecimiento de las orugas diariamente o semanalmente en un gráfico.Midiendolas delicadamente, pesar o contar las hojas que comen diariamente..

• Planta una Morera en el patio de la escuela.

• Añade trozos de tela de seda en la estanteria de arte o el área de costura de tu classe.

Si está trabajando con niños de 9 a 12 años, puede hacer lo siguiente:

• Todas las actividades anteriores.

• Responder preguntas sobre la información dada para descargar al final de la publicación.

• Hacer un proyecto sobre los Gusanos de seda. Buscar más información al respecto: su historia, especies, tipos, clasificación, hábitos, duración de vida ...

• Hacer una película de la vida del Gusano de seda. Filamndo cada dia su evolucion y hacer un breve video informativo.

• Hacer fotos de cerca del cuerpo del Gusano de seda o buscar imagenes en internet y con ellas hacer un trabajo artistico inspirado en los patrones que tienen los Gusanos de seda.

• Intentar extraer la seda del capullo una vez que los gusanos de seda hayan salido del capullo.

Si está trabajando con niños de 12 a 15 años, puede hacer lo siguiente:

• Todas las actividades anteriores.

• Trata de ponerte en contacto con la tienda local de mascotas para ver si pueden venir a tu centro y dar una charla a los niños sobre los Gusanos de seda y mostrarles cómo los crian.

• Iniciar un programa para criar Gusanos de seda en tu centro

• Hacer una obra de arte inspirada en la forma de los capullos y cómo lo hacen los Gusanos de Seda.

• Trate de hacer una réplica de un capullo gigante en el jardín de tu centro con una cuerda.

Como puedes ver se puede adaptar esta actividad a cualquier edad. Es fácil y divertido!

Spring Silkworms activities

 

Last year we had a fantastic Spring. After a long winter mostly expend indoors the kids and I were very eager to be outdoors, smell the flowers, be in the sunshine and observe nature coming to life again. We looked at insects, birds and we planted lots and lots of bulbs which are already coming back this year.

But one of the things we enjoyed the most and we are repeating this year was to get our very own Silkworms. Silkworms are such fascinating creates. Sadly we can’t find them in the wild anymore as they depend on humans to survive. They are farmed mainly in China and India for the Silk that comes from their cocoon. Or sold in pet stores.

 I bought ours at the local pet store but you can find lovely sets online. See the ones I have selected for you on the right Colum of the blog.

We got a shoe box to give them a house and found a space on our nature table for them. The children brought leaves from mulberry trees growing everywhere in Spain. It was fascinating to see the excitement on the children’s face every day when they opened the shoe box and found that the silkworms were bigger than the day before. They saw firsthand how the silkworm made their cocoons. For about 2 weeks everybody had to whisper around the class so we wouldn’t wake up the larva. To our surprise we catch the very moment when one of the cocoons was opening and the Silk moth came out. They all started almost chanting: common moth, common come out, you can do it! It came out and then it laid eggs. It was just amazing to witness it. I recommend it to all of at home, Montessori school or non Montessori school. Besides there is a whole lot of activities you can do around this subject.

Here are some  Silkworm related  activities organized by age group that you can do with your children. At the end of the post you will also find a free download pack with Silkworm 3 part cards, information cards plus additional Silk and Silkworm information.

      

If you are working with 2-3 year old children you can :

• Go to the library and get books about caterpillars and butterflies.

• Feed and observe silkworms and the transformation they go throw.

• Introduced  the silkworm 3 part cards that you will find at the end of the post. With this age group  I  only use the cards with the picture and the name to work vocabulary.

If you are working with children 3-6 you can do:

•  All the activities above.

• This time I advise you to use the set of the 3 part cards that you will find at the end of the post.

•  You can also read to the children the Silkworm additional  information available for free download at the end of the post.

• Add silk to your fabric box.

• Match silk to your color tablets.

• Have a box with silk cloth so that children can play with them in the playground.

If you are working with children 6-9 you can do:

• All the activities above.

• This time use the set of 3 part cards with information,  that you will find at the end of the post.

• They can read the Silkworm Information a available for free download at the end.

• Work on a life cycle of the silkworm.

• They can monitor the growth of the caterpillars daily or weekly in a chart.

• Plant a mulberry tree in the playground.

• Add silk pieces of fabric to the art shelf or the sewing area.

If you are working with children 9 -12 you can do:

• All the activities above.

• Answer questions about the information given for download at the end of the post.

• Do a project on silkworms finding out more information about it: their history, species, types, classification, habits, life span...

• Film the life of the silkworm with the one they have to make a short informative video.

• Do art work inspired with the patterns the silkworms have.Make close up photos of their bodies or find pictures online.

• Try to extract silk from the cocoon once the silk worms have emerged.

If you are working with children 12-15 you can do:

• All the activities above.

• Try to contact local pet store to see if they could come and give a talk to the children about silkworms and show them how to bread them.

• Start a breeding program at school

• Do a art work inspired with the shape of the cocoons and how they are made.

• Try and make a replica of a giant cocoon in the garden with rope.

As you can see you can adapt Silkworm theme to any age group. It is easy and lots of fun!
